Job Description

The Combat Systems Technician is the command technical representative/authority with assigned areas of responsibility for operating forces assigned to the Navy Region Southwest. Duties include providing direct fleet support and upgrades to Self Defense Combat Systems and associated subsystems.

The Combat Systems Technician provides complex technical services in connection with onsite Fleet Technical Assistance and Fleet On Board Maintenance Training and Fleet Equipment course development on the following Major Systems and Subsystems:


1. Sea Sparrow Systems and associated subsystems including:

  • NSSMS MK 57, NATO Sea Sparrow Missile System
  • NSSMS Directors MK78


2. Provides Immediate Authoritative technical assistance on urgent mission degrading problems affecting major shipboard systems on U. S. PACFLT ships.

  • Provides immediate authoritative guidance to forward deployed units that are beyond the capability of Intermediate Maintenance Activity, Ship Repair Facility or organizational level unit.
  • Serves as a Senior Instructor and course development specialist for Self Defense Combat Systems equipment, responsible for instructional design, design update and the conduct of on board maintenance training U.S. PACFLT ships.

Required Skills

  • Thorough comprehensive knowledge of the assigned systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of the tactical capabilities and usage of the total weapons system.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles of a highly specialized level of theories, practices, and techniques to include but not limited to the following cross disciplines; acoustics, electronics, electrical, thermodynamics, piping systems and related interfacing fields in order to provide overall cross analysis from total system view point.
Required Experience
  • 5-7 years of Navy Combat Systems technical experience
  • Strong verbal communication skills, including being able to brief U.S. Navy Executives
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
  • Candidate must hold an active secret clearance or higher.
